With the increasing number of COVID cases in Sierra Leone, the healthcare workers remain to be the most vulnerable due to a lack of an adequate amount of personal protective equipment (PPE). These workers saw many of their colleagues perish during the EBOLA epidemic in 2015. The aim was to let the doctors, nurses, and ancillary staffs know that they will not stand alone in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
As part of the COVID-19 initiative launched by a group of Sierra Leonean doctors in the diaspora, AIDAK Foundation raised $3,500 through individual donors to support healthcare workers in Sierra Leone. The AIDAK Foundation purchased and donated 500 facemasks, 40 boxes of disposable gloves, 400 hand sanitizers, and 50 bags of rice to the Bo Government Hospital (BoGH) on May 1, 2020.
AIDAK Foundation plans to continue to support the BoGH in its mission to provide affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare services to the southern districts of Sierra Leone.
The donations will benefit staff in 10 Ward units. Two officials at the hospital received the gifts on behalf of the team: Dr. Augustin Fombah, the Medical Superintendent, and Mrs. Esther Jabbie, the hospital Matron.
